![]() Brian, by contrast, is a good-looking, serious minded husband and father coping with his wife's drug addiction. Despite annoying overuse of her pistol prop, even under house arrest, Madea is a fun, larger than life character. The screenwriter, who has played the character of Madea on stage (she's featured in a few of his plays), clearly has on screen talent. Perry even caps his story with an ending straight out of "An Officer and a Gentleman" just for good measure. Orlando, on the other hand, is a steel worker who labors twelve hours a day, has a taste for pricey jazz clubs and doesn't believe in sex before marriage! Grant lets Perry's script dictate a wildly uneven tone, allowing the film to careen from gushy romance to slapstick to Debrah's uplifting, stuck-on redemption subplot (which culminates in a Church scene that must be seen to be believed). Charles is such a cold fish that it is impossible to envision a time when he was a good husband. Perry, who must be commended for the humorous character of Madea (a contraction of 'mother dear'), in addition to playing Madea's brother Tom and their nephew Brian, has written a script that would make most soap operas look subtle. Sparks eventually fly, but when Charles is shot by a drug lord and abandoned by Brenda, Helen, not yet divorced, rushes back to her old life. After raising some ruckus at Charles', Madea throws a party that enables Helen to reconnect with cousin Brian (Perry again), the attorney married to Debrah, who 'introduces' her to Orlando (Shemar Moore, TV's "The Young and the Restless"), the guy who Charles hired to clear her out of his home. She's astonished to discover her old good friend Debrah (Tamara Taylor, "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge") is now a junkie. Charles has cut Helen off from her family over the years, but after driving around all night in the moving van her husband helpfully hired for her, Helen arrives at Madea's (Perry), who immediately begins plotting revenge and waving her pistol around. The next day, Helen is literally dragged kicking and screaming out of her home because Charles has decided to move in the mother of his children (Lisa Marcos, TV's "Kevin Hill," as Brenda). Charles blows kisses from the podium accepting the Bob Feinstein attorney of the year award, then drops Helen off at home saying he has to return to the office. Her husband runs cold in private and hot in public, and is caught in his office with a much younger white woman and racially mixed child that his assistants are trying to shield her from. ![]() The end results is something like "Waiting to Exhale" crossed with "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps" and "Big Momma's House." "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" is one of those movies that's so jaw-droppingly ridiculous that it becomes entertaining. He's adapted his popular 2000 play, put it into the hands of Destiny's Child video director Darren Grant and given himself three roles. Playwright Tyler Perry, whose palatial Atlanta manse stands in for the McCarter estate, is living proof that there's no accounting for taste. ![]() It also had the potential to be turned into another animation. You put more time and detail into things that matter. Not only is it not enough, but it shows how much it’s not essential. It would be much better if they told this story in a more detailed fashion in another installment.Īll these important and dangerous things happen in just 20 minutes. Includes all 13 add-on fighters including Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Terminator, Sindel, The Joker, Spawn, Fujin, Sheeva, RoboCop and newly added. All the realms intertwine because of Shinnok and get fixed again by Liu Kang. Shinnok becomes the One Being, and Liu Kang becomes the dragon and fights. My main problem with Battle of the Realm is the last 20 minutes. ![]() These things are glorious to us, but not the character who does them regularly. But they did a great job not focusing too much on them or making a big deal of it, as they did in the Mortal Kombat movies. There are many familiar moves from characters in Battle of the Realm, and there are, of course, the infamous fatalities. Due to its unrestricted physics, it has more freedom to do crazier things, which you cannot do in a video game. But in films, you can change that, as well as the speed of actions. The thing with fighting games is that you cannot be artistic about the camera angle. Mortal Kombat Legends found a way to be as engaging as the video games. Not many people can make a film or animation to be as close as its video game. But when you turn that kind of game into a movie, you exchange the active part into a passive one. The fun part of Mortal Kombat is that you control the characters and fight. The best and most important part of the game is, of course, its action sequences. This guy’s sense of humor did a great job not letting the animation turn into a dead saving-the-world severe drama. Johnny Cage, voiced by Joel McHale, is the top-notch character of Battle of the Realms. But in Battle of the Realms, if you do not know the characters, you’ll have trouble connecting with these people. ![]() In the Mortal Kombat games, we see the character’s background through flashbacks or simple conversation. I do not expect to see every character’s background deeply, but it would have been better if we saw a little bit more about Liu Kang or Lord Raiden. You cannot connect that much with the characters unless you’ve played Mortal Kombat games and understand each character’s background. The tricky part is that it needs to be dramatic but not that deep to turn off the fun mode of the film.Īs much as the story is well-written, the characters’ arcs are bad. The drama in movies like Mortal Kombat is a break from one action sequence to another. Jeremy Adams, who wrote the Battle of the Realms script, did one hell of a job to balance the animation’s action and drama. No one watches a Mortal Kombat feature to get lectured by the writer and director about morality. The thing about animations or movies like Mortal Kombat is that the writer needs to understand what viewers want. Battle of the Realms doesn’t give you much talking and chatting, and it is not a non-stop action animation either. The story itself is pretty well written and has a very accurate pace. It is based chiefly on Mortal Kombat, which was released in 2011. We saw many familiar faces from Mortal Kombat games, primarily the main characters. Lord Raiden and Shao Kahn decide to ask the Elder Gods to start a final Mortal Kombat tournament. The story of Battle of the Realms is about the final tournament of Mortal Kombat, which will end the conflict between realms forever. It stayed faithful to the video games on every term. Personally, Battle of the Realms is my 2021 Mortal Kombat. It was quite a remedy to what the Mortal Kombat movie did to me. Like many others, I didn’t like the film, and it was not even as exciting as Scorpion’s Revenge or the Mortal Kombat games.įortunately, this year we also got the second installment of Mortal Kombat Legends, entitled Battle of the Realms. This year we had the Mortal Kombat movie directed by Simon McQuoid. I did not expect it to be that good, but it surprised me and turned out to be the best-produced feature based on the Mortal Kombat video games. It told the story of Hanzo Hasashi, aka Scorpion. We saw the first Mortal Kombat Legends last year entitled Scorpion’s Revenge. *This review spoils the story of Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.* It’s bloody, it has many fight scenes, and of course, there are fatalities. Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms is a proper Mortal-Kombatian animation that you can watch. ![]() A textfile included in the WAD also gives description of all of the missions, including the bases' inspection, return to Earth and journey through Hell. Almost all of the maps could be played in deathmatch or cooperative mode.Ī DeHackEd patch is used to change the levels' names and par times. Most of the 32 levels contained are vanilla-compatible, but errors could appear at a few points while using the original executable, so it is better to play through a limit removing source port another reason is that additional graphics are present. Give it a couple of years or so and hardware accelerated ray-tracing may well be just another part of modern GPU design, much like hardware accelerated T&L was back in the day. ![]() Much like hardware T&L wasn't necessary if you had a very fast CPU to compensate, hardware-assisted ray-tracing isn't necessary now if your current graphics card can push sufficiently high resolutions and framerates that you don't miss the extra ray-tracing effects. 1 to show frame rate on screen constantly, 0 to turn it off. Make sure you press 'Enter' after you type each code in Effect. Hardware assisted ray-tracing is only supported on one GPU range right now, but others are round the corner. Press (,Ctrl, and Alt) to bring up the game console during play and enter the following codes to activate them. (Side note: the addition of a hardware transform and lighting engine into the GeForce 256 is what prompted Nvidia to stop calling their graphics chipsets "accelerators" and start calling them "graphics processing units": the entire 3D rendering pipeline was contained in one architecture and didn't rely on any outside components.) DirectX 7 eventually came along with hardware T&L support and within a couple of years hardware T&L units were standard in all discrete 3D graphics cards. If you adjust for inflation that comes to about $430 in today's USD - for comparison the cheapest RTX 2060 card I see on Scan is £300, $380 in funnymoney. Theyre bringing it back with a whopping FIVE dollar price drop. From what I can see, the first graphics card to support hardware T&L was the GeForce 256, and one of those cards with DDR memory would set you back $280 at the time (see this old Tom's Hardware review). Quake 2 is on a separate disc from Quake 4. Hardware T&L was in a similar situation when it first launched: at first it was only supported under OpenGL and only a handful of titles actually made use of it. The different fps values that people are talking. Quake RXT doesnt look 'miraculous' to you because you dont know what youre looking at. A sustained frame rate of 25-30 fps would actually do, it may never ever drop below 25 though, because that would cause game play restrictions. With an RTX 2080 Ti 4K, I got barely 30-35FPS in a twenty-year-old game. Well, technically you can run them on the GTX cards as well, but the performance is going to be horrendous. however I'm reminded of the days when hardware accelerated transform & lighting (T&L) was a brand new thing, way back in late 1999/early 2000. You can get to run at higher frame rate at cost of resolution. NVIDIA recently released the Quake 2 RTX edition exclusively for the GeForce RTX Turing cards. I'd like to dismiss hardware accelerated ray-tracing as a gimmick with little real-world value. ![]() Of course many Mac and iOS users rely on the Messages app for communication, and there’s nothing wrong with that either, though if you’re communicating with Android users it would need to send through SMS. Can it figure out what I do on a daily basis, the order that I do things, and the information I tend to require? In other words, can Apple make the finder old-fashioned and obsolete through innovation and not just feature removal? Not to mention the fact that the Finder is the same interface for the past 15 years, and is basically the same since NeXT and the original Mac. ![]() Giving an important file a color label creates a tiny subtle color dot in the middle of a column. I just tried it on my 10.12.6 system and it doesn't seem to be auto scrolling the window any more, maybe they changed it? I still do most of my work on 10.10 so may have missed if they modified the behavior. In 10.11 they changed it so after you commit the folder name it has a cute animation of the folder moving and it usually scrolls the list view to leave the new folder visible, which also has the effect of messing up quick file/folder renaming. But if you have the status bar visible the folder would always be hidden under that bar so after every new folder I make I have to scroll a little bit to unhide it. I presume this is a result of changing the behavior of how the new folder is displayed after you create it, since before 10.11 when you changed the name and hit enter, the folder would move to its alphabetical place (assuming you are using list view with status bar visible) and attempt to scroll the window to keep the new folder visible. #1 started happening in 10.11, before then it worked like you and I wanted. Go back deep down the folder hierarchy, and the Finder stops reacting / accepting the drop again. What makes me certain it's the deep nesting that caused the Finder to go limp? Just keep going up the folder hierarchy, until magically one of the upper level folders start taking the dragged images (immediate clue is the Finder highlighting the inner boundary of the open folder). In the latter case, it's not a mistake of the user missing the target folder and dropping onto the desktop in the background. There're two potential outcomes: EITHER (in most cases) nothing happens, as in the Finder not even highlighting the inner boundary of the open Finder folder in response to drag-n-drop action like it's supposed to under normal circumstances, OR (sometimes) the dragged images always end up on the Desktop (much to one's surprise) in total disregard to the intent of the drag-n-drop. Try to drag-n-drop web images from a web browser into the deepest nested folder. Whether it's the extra few milliseconds of hitting "Cmd+C" or just the act seems to stop Finder from its stupidity. The workaround, as I've found, is to do a Cmd+C of the "new name" right after finishing typing it. This has happened hundreds of times in my experience, even mostly on my SSD startup volume. How utterly frustrating is that, after a long typing? Even worse, there's no reversal (Cmd+Z) to redo or undo the renaming by the Finder, because the Finder apparently seems too slow to handle the back-to-back action of a human user duplicating a folder and immediately renaming that. "custom name copy", *after* you've finished typing "new name". If you do it fast enough (like me), you will be rudely surprised that Finder automagically renames the duplicate folder *back* to the previous name, i.e. Now immediately try to give this duplicate folder a new name. I have two examples of Finder's royal suckitude fresh on my mind: If you're already a member, go to iStripper website, login to your account and get back here. Larry Summers’s line, that the UK is behaving like an ‘emerging market turning itself into a submerging market’ seems closer to the mark. The difference between Britain’s new-found sovereign autonomy – if one believes in such a thing – in 2022 and that of the newly independent nation-states of the 1950s and 1960s is that Britain today confronts a global economy shaped by more than forty years of neoliberal reforms. This is precisely what the mid-20th-century neoliberals feared would happen as nations acquired their sovereignty after decolonisation.
